Painted Poplar and Cherry 5-Drawer Chest

This five-drawer chest is made primarily of tulip polar with cherry top, drawer fronts, and pulls. The poplar is finished in Lexington Green milk paint while the cherry is done in tung oil and wax. The drawers are evenly graduated from 6 to 10 inches, dovetailed front and rear, and the bottoms are of ½-inch poplar with tapered edges. The frames that separate and support the drawers are done with loose mortise and tenon joints and are half-dovetailed into the left and right sides at both front and rear. This portion of the job was a little nervous-making but it should ensure that the joints will never come loose. The back is formed by three raised panels in a frame as shown below. I don't know about you but I think this looks a lot better than a sheet of cheap plywood bradded into place. Overall size in inches: 53 X 38 X 19
