Stemmed Birch Hollow Form

I believe that this is the last hollow form that I turned before leaving Alaska. The technique is that demonstrated by John Jordan in his video -- you didn't really think that this big thing could have been hollowed through a ½-inch hole did you? Using Jordan's method the stem or neck is removed early in the process, the hollowing is done through the larger hole which is left behind and then the stem is replaced. With luck the deception is completely unnoticeable. In my case I textured and dyed the stem, the real hole being at the outer edge of the treated area. Body finish is sprayed artist's matte fixative lacqueur with stipple-textured and dyed stem. Approximate size in inches: 9 X 12.
