Black Walnut Candle Stand

This project was done on a lark just to see if I could do it. The sliding-dovetail joinery between the legs and post looked to be very challenging and I was not sure that I could carry it off without a few practice attempts. As it turned out, while difficult, it was not nearly so difficult as I had imagined. Materials are all local black walnut. The leg shape is similar to some of the more extreme spider legs from the Shaker's best period while the post is a simple bottle shape and is rather slender compared to historic examples. A thick brass plate covers the bottom of the post and reinforces the leg joinery. Finish is tung oil and wax. Dimensions in inches: 26 X 18 (height X diameter)
